Vision charity the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has defended itself after a television documentary about telephone fundraising was aired last night.

Channel 4 Dispatches programme ‘How to Stop your Nuisance Calls’ sent undercover reporters to some of the call centres providing services for several well-known charities.

During the investigation, scripts used by fundraising staff at an external agency for the RNIB were called into question, with the reporter saying it gave the impression she was calling from the charity itself.

A statement by the RNIB said: ‘We are confident that our telephone fundraising activity meets all legal requirements as well as best practice guidelines set out by the Institute of Fundraising.
