RNIB library available online

EuropeÕs most extensive library on blindness has been made available on the internet.
The Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB), which maintains the library, has made its collection electronically accessible via a joint project with the National Library for the Blind (NLB).
By accessing www.rnib.org. uk/library/research, visitors can search and browse RNIBÕs catalogue, join the library and request or reserve publications.
The site means the library is available to health professionals as well as medical and social services personnel around the world. It has been designed to be fully accessible to blind and partially sighted people. Additional software can be installed on the userÕs PC to increase the size of the print on the screen or convert it into speech or Braille.
The online library was developed over the past 12 months after NLB agreed to subcontract its existing library management system, GEAC, to the RNIB.
ÔAs the worldÕs main supplier of library management systems, GEAC products would normally have been beyond our reach,Õ said Julian Roland, RNIBÕs research library manager.
ÔWe are extremely grateful to NLB for their assistance. RNIB can now offer people with sight problems, professionals, students, and relatives seeking information, easy access to any research via the internet.Õ
