RNIB teaches bus drivers inclusivity

Glasgow bus company First Bus hosted a training session with the Royal National Institute of Blind People to educate drivers about how to better accommodate blind and partially sighted passengers.

The ‘Swap-With-Me' event explained public transport challenges faced and provided drivers with spectacles that simulated different eye conditions to allow them to understand barriers that blind and partially sighted passengers experience.

Tony O’Connor, head of operations at First Glasgow, said: ‘We were delighted to welcome RNIB Scotland to our Caledonia depot to speak to many of our drivers.

‘They interact with thousands of members of the public throughout Glasgow each day and giving them the opportunity to better understand the difficulties faced by people with sight loss will hopefully assist in providing an improved service to our customers in communities throughout Glasgow.’
