More than a hundred people came together to back a new patient-centred approach to eye care support on Wednesday September 18.
The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) hosted an event at Aston University in Birmingham to launch an eye care support pathway patient guide.
The pathway, codesigned with 23 eye care organisations, aimed to help people better navigate their eye care journey, and access appropriate support at key stages.
Completed in November 2023, it was endorsed earlier this month by Louisa Wickham, the NHS’s national clinical director for eyecare and consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Moorfields Eye Hospital.
Chief operating officer at RNIB, Mari Jones, said: ‘I urge eye care professionals to adopt this framework and implement it across the board to ensure patients have access to the right support at the right time.’
