RNIB wins funding for eye care project

Eye examination eye testVision charity The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has been granted £270,000 to fund a project developing a new approach to health and social care.

RNIB was one of a number of voluntary sector organisations who submitted funding bids to the Department of Health and will now embark on a project entitled ‘Early Intervention and Rehabilitation in Eye Care Services’.

The three year project was developed in partnership with the chair of the Rehab Workers Network, and is based on implementing the Adult Sight Loss Pathway.

Dr Philippa Simkiss, head of evidence and service impact RNIB, said: ‘We are delighted to receive this funding and look forward to working on the project. Our initiative aims to use learning from the sector and blind and partially sighted people to develop a new, streamlined delivery model that includes early intervention support. It will also map rehabilitation services and review return on investment.
