Rodenstock develops sporting prowess

German manufacturer Rodenstock has become Reebok International's world-wide licensee for the company's eyewear after signing its second major licensing agreement for 2000.

Rodenstock announced last week it would manufacture, market and distribute a new eyewear collection under the Reebok trademark. The collection will be launched next year. Rodenstock said Reebok's 'athletic heritage' would be the inspiration for the collection. It will feature 'unique' designs and materials such as lightweight metals and silicone nosepads. Ophthalmic frames will be developed for active, sports-minded customers. A collection of performance eyewear for serious athletes will also be created. Managing director of NiGuRa Helmut Otto is responsible for licensed brands for spectacle frames within the Rodenstock Group. He said: 'Reebok is the ideal addition to the brand portfolio of Rodenstock. Due to its global reputation and the brand's athletic heritage, we see substantial potential for growth, particularly as we market prescription eyewear with the Reebok trademark for the first time.' Reebok's vice-president of licensing, Fred Kelloway, said the company was 'thrilled' with the agreement. 'We look forward to rolling out exciting, Reebok eyewear,' he added.
