Rodenstock has released a new range of lenses constructed from Trivex.

The manufacturer said the material incorporated advanced polymer technology originally developed for use in helicopter windscreens and fighter jet canopies, displayed extreme impact resistance, optical purity and lightness.

The material was claimed to block 100 per cent of harmful UV rays and work with all kinds of frame designs. Trivex was also said to be a particularly good choice for any lightweight fashion frames that rely on lenses for structural rigidity. Its high Abbe value also helps to reduce chromatic aberration.

Debbie Bathgate, Rodenstock lens product manager, said: 'Rodenstock Trivex Lenses are strong and lightweight, resembling the thinness of a high index lens but weighing even less than polycarbonate. About 85 per cent of patients fall within the prescription range of +3.00D to -3.00D and will gain most from the benefits of Trivex material.'
