Routine sight tests return in Ireland

Optometrists in Ireland have re-opened practice doors this week for urgent and non-urgent services, including routine eye exams while following social distancing measures.

Testing time has been reduced to decrease contact time and measures such as managing the number of people in the practice at one time, sterilising equipment and using PPE for close examinations have been introduced.

Patricia Dunphy, president of the Association of Optometrists Ireland (AOI), said: ‘Contact your optometrist if you have eye care needs, even if non-urgent. The recommended approach is to phone the optometrist in advance to discuss your needs and to then make an appointment based on this.’
