With memories of the Six Nations still fresh, Optical Express has urged rugby players not to ignore the signs of vision problems.
Dr Steve Schallhorn, chief medical director at Optical Express said there is a lack of awareness when it comes to the impact of head injuries on a players’ eyesight: ‘Coaches and medical staff in rugby are getting better at detecting cases of concussion, but often miss the danger signs of severe risks to a player’s sight. Dizziness, headaches, light sensitivity, double-vision and difficulty focussing can all occur after a player is concussed.’
