Safilo funding deal in doubt

Italian eyewear company Safilo's talks with private equity funds on taking a stake in the company could miss the end of June deadline for completion, a source close to the talks has told Reuters news agency.

Italian eyewear company Safilo's talks with private equity funds on taking a stake in the company could miss the end of June deadline for completion, a source close to the talks has told Reuters news agency.

The source said only two of the four funds, Bain Capital and Pai Partners, remain in the running. Although the news agency added that another source said that Apax Partners and CVC Capital were continuing negotiations. The delay has been put down to both Bain Capital and Pai Partners taking time over studying Safilo before making any decision.

The June deadline for completion was announced by Safilo's chief executive, Roberto Vedovotto, in April.
