Safilo Group profits fell 26 per cent in the second quarter to €9.6m, following the phasing out of its Armani eyewear contract as well as the appreciation of the US dollar.

The company said that in the first six months of the year it had achieved net sales of €613.3m, up 1.7 per cent compared to €603.3m in the same period of 2011.

The second quarter, where net sales increased 7.3 per cent to €324.6m, benefited from the consolidation of the newly acquired Polaroid Eyewear business, which it described as a key element towards Safilo's development strategy in the specialist and value-for-money segments.
