Safilo's great frame robbery

Safilo has become the victim of one of the largest ever thefts of eyewear, after product with a retail value of £750,000 was stolen from its UK warehouse in Harrogate on April 29.

Around 13,000 units from nearly all of the frame maker's designer ranges were taken, including Giorgio and Emporio Armani, Gucci, Dior, Diesel and Yves Saint Laurent.
The exact circumstances behind the theft have not been disclosed as North Yorkshire Police has requested that details of the crime are kept confidential. However, the company has revealed that the stock was part of a large shipment, which included discontinued models, that was ready for return to the head office in Italy.
UK commercial manager Marco Patalano appealed to all practitioners to contact the London office on 020 7841 5990 if offered product from Safilo's brand portfolio from anyone other than its own sales representatives.
