Santen has introduced two eye preparations for the treatment of keratitis and glaucoma.
Ikervis is licensed for the treatment of severe keratitis in adults with dry eye disease, which has not improved despite treatment with tear substitutes. Santen said this was the only topical preparation licensed in the UK for severe keratitis which used ciclosporin. The ciclosporin 1mg/mL eye drops are delivered as emulsion in single dose containers.
For glaucoma, Santen has introduced Taptiqom, a preservative-free eye drop. Taptiqom is a combination of the prostaglandin analogue tafluprost and the beta-blocker timolol for the reduction of intraocular pressure in adults with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension who are insufficiently responsive to topical monotherapy with beta-blockers or prostaglandin analogues and require a combination therapy. It contains tafluprost 15 micrograms/ml and timolol maleate 5mg/ml solution in a single-dose container.
