No7 Contact Lenses has launched a new mini-scleral lens, ICD 16.5, at a series of workshops and lectures. Guest speaker Pat Caroline, associate professor of optometry at Pacific University Oregon and consultant to Paragon Vision Sciences, toured the UK last week to present the philosophy behind the lens, described as a tangent angle scleral design.

New understanding of corneal and scleral topography was that the shape of the limbus and anterior sclera was tangential rather than curved, said Caroline. Designed for diseased, asymmetrical and post-surgical eyes, ICD 16.5 employs a series of tangent zones to create optimal alignment with the shape of the peripheral cornea, limbus and sclera.
