The Scottish Committee of Optometrists held its latest AGM earlier this month where Stephen McPherson stood down as chair.

He is succeeded by former vice-chair Ian Jarvis. Neil Leslie has been elected vice-chair and Lorna Cameron remains administrator.

The SCO said that McPherson had provided strong and dynamic leadership for the past two years through dramatic changes in Scottish optometry.

He has guided the SCO into a niche market of practical and peer-led education, creating an excellent framework on which to base future education, it said.

The Committee has also launched a new website to provide optometrists in Scotland with full details about courses plus information about how to join the SCO and receive discounts on its education. Its evening ‘Cataract pre and post operative management’ roadshow in Glasgow was oversubscribed and future courses include ‘Glaucoma diagnosis’ (March 11) and ‘Macular degeneration’ (September 9).
