Concerned calls from optometrists to Optometry Scotland as a result of Christian Dutton's Testing Times survey (News 09.07.10) have caused the body to clarify its position on eye examination times.
According to Optometry Scotland (OS), approximately 20 queries were received as a result of the publicity surrounding Dutton's online survey to ascertain views on clinic time management, especially eye examination duration and other tasks. The survey's results indicated that optometrists needed around 29 minutes to conduct a test.
OS said in a statement to Optician that it wished to remind the profession of the Scottish GOS regulations which said: 'The minimum time involved in providing a primary eye examination should be 30 minutes for those patients who attend for routine examinations with no specific symptoms and no prescription for glasses/contact lenses.'
