CGS launched to support hospital eye services, and is set to be operational by 2025

The Scottish government launched the Community Glaucoma Service (CGS) to support hospital eye services and planned to have the service operational nationally by 2025.

The CGS started on December 7, 2022, and would roll out on a board by board basis in late 2022-23 and early 2023-24, subject to discussion and confirmation, with completion planned for 2024-25.

This would begin in NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, and would only apply to Health & Social Care Partnerships in Glasgow City, East Renfrewshire and East Dunbartonshire.

The rollout included mapping of those who will be eligible to provide their clinical expertise towards the community services as well as those who wish to participate, as clinicians need to be independent prescribing optometrists, NESGAT qualified and registered by the Health Board.
