Optometrists in Scotland have been exercising new prescribing powers to take pressure off local GPs.
Lanarkshire-based Dr Scott Mackie (pictured) and Dr Roisin Mackie were among of the first independent prescribing (IP) optometrists in Scotland to receive an NHS prescription pad following the new legislation.
They completed the IP training course at Glasgow Caledonian University and joined the GOC IP register after passing the College of Optometrists’ final common assessment.
The new prescription pads have been issued to all IP optometrists in Scotland who are GOC registered and have filled in the necessary paperwork (News 06.09.13).
