
Optical practices in Scotland have been told that emergency and essential eye care should continue to be prioritised after the Scottish government’s new Covid-19 framework came into effect on November 2.
Patients who are at greatest risk of detriment to sight or wellbeing should be seen first, according to the dentistry and optometry division of the Directorate of Primary Care.
Community optometry practices in Scotland are exempt from the protection measures set out across all five levels detailed by the government and can therefore stay open.
Practitioners and all practice staff were advised to follow the advice in the NHS Education for Scotland document, Resuming General Ophthalmic Services Following Covid-19 Shutdown.
