A Sightsavers global trachoma advisor has been shortlisted for an award

A Sightsavers global trachoma advisor has been shortlisted for a humanitarian accolade for her work in helping to eliminate the eye disease in Ghana.

Agatha Aboe from Accra in Ghana introduced the idea of conducting house to house searches for people living with trachomatous trichiasis, which can lead to irreversible sight loss.

In 2018, the World Health Organization announced that Ghana was the first country in sub-Saharan Africa to eliminate trachoma.

Aboe is nominated for a Bond International Development Award, which recognises exceptional work being undertaken in the development sector. The winner will be announced at a ceremony in London on March 23.
