Silhouette highlighted its sustainability initiatives as part of Earth Day on April 22, including its efforts to reuse and reduce water usage at its factory in Austria.
The eyewear brand said its processes reduced its water consumption and smaller volumes of wastewater were released into the sewage system.
Over 104,000 litres of water were treated every day by its two onsite centres, which was then recycled several times before it was purified and released into the wastewater system.
Silhouette also produced its lenses in a closed production cycle that prevented any microplastics entering the water. It achieved this by milling, instead of grinding, non-prescription lenses and by not using water in drilling or finishing its lenses.
