Silmo Optical Design Competition welcomes entries

International eyewear exhibition Silmo launched the third edition of its Optical Design Competition with a focus on ‘the evolving role of accessory eyewear, exploring new functionality and innovative uses’.

Chaired by designer Olivier Jault, the competition encouraged students to rethink eyewear beyond its traditional function, incorporating new features that meet the emerging needs of modern society.

Third to fifth year design course students were welcomed to enter individually or collaboratively by June 15 and the winner will receive a prize of 10,000 euros, awarded jointly to the school and the student.

A jury of design professionals will assess entries according to their innovation, creativity, functionality, social and environmental responsibility with shortlisted projects announced in July this year.
