Sir John Major has agreed to take on a new three-year term as a patron of charity SeeAbility's Sight Pioneers.

The former Prime Minister's previous three-year tenure as patron of the Sight Pioneers, SeeAbility's most generous benefactors, helped raise more than £300,000, a sum the charity claims he was instrumental in generating.

Sir John's understanding of the devastation caused by blindness comes from personal experience after his father lost his sight when Sir John was a young child. 'Those of us with sight are immensely fortunate. It is up to us to help those without,' he said.

SeeAbility's chair of trustees, Elizabeth Wagstaff, commented: 'We are absolutely delighted that Sir John has decided to continue with his support of SeeAbility.
