Welsh Assembly Government sets up website promoting Wales Eye Care Initiative

A new website www.eyecarewales.nhs.uk which aims to save people's vision in Wales has been welcomed by Welsh Assembly Health Minister Dr Brian Gibbons.

The website, set up by the Welsh Assembly Government and run by the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) Cymru, will promote the Wales Eye Care Initiative, which aims to prevent vision loss and assist people with vision problems.

Launched last Friday, the site gives information on the scheme, gives advice on entitlement to free eye health checks and helps patients locate accredited opticians. It also supports other promotional activity, including leaflets and special events.

Dr Gibbons said he was delighted that people could learn more about the initiative through the site. 'The Welsh Assembly Government is committed to eye health and set up this unique scheme to help people who are most at risk of sight loss through eye disease and people who have low vision.
