A new supplement formulated to slow the progression of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been launched in the UK.
Macu-Save contains three natural ingredients – 10mg meso-zeaxanthin, 10mg lutein and 2mg zeaxanthin. Lutein and zeaxanthin, known collectively as macular carotenoids, are found in leafy green vegetables like kale, lettuce and spinach and form a part of a normal diet, but key ingredient meso-zeaxanthin has powerful antioxidant properties and is a by-product which the body starts failing to produce over the age of about 50.
UK manufacturer, Oxfordshire-based Zeon Healthcare, hoped that one capsule a day would not only save consumers their sight, but also money as it claimed it cost ‘much less than its nearest rival’ for a one or three-month supply.
