Smart partnership has 3D ambitions

3D printed eyewear brand Materialise has partnered with augmented reality company Vuzix to design and produce smart eyewear integrated with 3D printing technology.  

The companies hoped the collaboration would enable third-party technology, sports and entertainment brands to introduce smart eyewear to consumers. 

Fried Vancraen, CEO at Materialise, said: ‘We believe that collaboration with Vuzix will bring new innovations to industrial smart eyewear and accelerate consumer adoption of smart eyewear.’ 

Materialise and Vuzix said consumer adoption of smart eyewear has been limited but its hoped to address this through creating fashionable and affordable designs.  

Paul Travers, president and CEO at Vuzix, added: ‘Materialise offers several key advantages that align with our strategic outlook. We look forward to seeing what’s possible together.’
