British firm Snapitscrew has been awarded a European patent for its Snapit Frame Screw repair product.
The screw, which can be used in hinges and eyewires, was said to allow optical professionals to repair glasses without any special tools. ‘The European patent award is thoroughly deserved and testament to the vision, tenacity and patience of the inventor Nancy Tedeschi,’ said Stephen Linnecar, director of Snapitscrew International.
Tedeschi added: ‘Similar products are coming out of the woodwork. Be warned, if someone infringes on the patent, we plan to take action.’
Having originally signed a licensing deal with Essilor for US distribution, the company is currently working with Vision Express and other multiples, as well as with frame suppliers such as Menrad.
