Solihull-based optometrist suspended

Nirmal Koasha has been suspended for 12 months following dishonest conduct

Solihull-based optometrist Nirmal Koasha has been suspended for 12 months following dishonest conduct and negligent performance.

A General Optical Council (GOC) Fitness to Practise Committee found she had been impaired by reason of misconduct and deficient professional performance due to actions between April 2019 and September 2019.

Allegations included not meeting the 2016 – 2018 CET cycle requirements, failing to sufficiently record patient information and assessments, being dishonest about the number of sight tests conducted and falsifying clinical data in subsequent examinations.

The Committee believed that the Registrant attempted to downplay the extent of the eye examinations undertaken in order to minimise the resulting consequences of such conduct, leading to further belief in dishonest conduct.
