Specsavers adds a further Dutch outlet

Specsavers Opticians is pushing ahead with its expansion into the Dutch market with the opening of a second practice, in Breda city centre - Optiprima Opticiens. The 2,000sq ft practice will be run as a joint venture with Dutch optometrist Cor Van Empel as its partner director.

Specsavers chief executive Doug Perkins said there was great potential for his company's concept in Holland because the Dutch market was unused to a 'complete price' policy. Most Dutch patients expected to have a lot of extra costs added on once they had chosen their frames, he added. The Breda opening coincides with the publication of Specsavers' annual report, which shows continued strong growth for the group. Last year Specsavers carried out more than 2.8 million eye examinations. The combined practice turnover was &\#163;235m and bonuses and profits for its joint-venture partners amounted to more than &\#163;30m. The group continues to expand in the UK, with 23 new outlets and practice expansions during the past year bringing the total number of practices up to 340. This represented a 20 per cent share of the UK market by volume, said Specsavers.
