Specsavers and Glaucoma UK to present at 100% Optical

Glaucoma UK's ophthalmologist and chair, professor Anthony King and Specsavers' clinical services director, Giles Edmonds

Specsavers clinical leaders and Glaucoma UK’s chair will question whether more can be done to fight glaucoma in a main stage presentation at 100% Optical at London’s ExCel on Sunday February 25.

Clinical services director Giles Edmonds, director of professional advancement Paul Morris and ophthalmologist and chair Anthony King will pose the question: ‘Are we doing everything we can for every glaucoma patient?’

‘We know that optometrists already play a critical role in caring for this group of patients in the community but are ready and able to do more working with ophthalmologists,’ said Edmonds.

Morris added that developing optometrists was ‘key to enhancing community glaucoma services and supporting the NHS’.

Professor King praised positive developments in glaucoma care to date, but said more could be done: ‘It is vital that we work together to achieve joined-up, consistent and equitable care across the UK.’

More than 700,000 people in the UK are estimated to have glaucoma – the most preventable cause of blindness – and approximately half are unaware they have it.
