Specsavers Epsom welcomes Chernobyl ChildrenA group of youngsters from an area still affected by the Chernobyl disaster have visited a local optician to receive free eye examinations and glasses.

Specsavers in Epsom welcomed 10 children from Chernobyl as part of their visit to the UK. Store manager Jenny Burton (centre) said: ‘It is vital for all children to have regular eye examinations. The radiation these children are subjected to because of where they live increases their chance of developing conditions such as cataracts, which would go undetected without an eye examination. Since there is no access to eye care in their home town, we are delighted to give them the opportunity here at Epsom.’

The practice has supported the visits for more than a decade and provided all treatment free of charge.
