SPOKE launches Supervision guidance project

The Sector Partnership for Optical Knowledge and Education (SPOKE) released its fourth project, Supervision guidance, reflecting on good practice in the supervision of pre-reg clinical and experiential learning.

SPOKE is funded by the GOC, led by the College of Optometrists and managed by a steering group with representatives from the College, Association of British Dispensing Opticians (ABDO) and the Optometry Schools Council (OSC).

The project focused on how to enhance good practice during the transition to the GOC Education and Training Requirements, taking into consideration needs, constraints and opportunities for the profession.

Professor Lizzy Ostler, director of education at the College of Optometrists, said she was delighted to see the guidance published: ‘It offers thinking on risk management and communication and training, for supervisors, and should help the whole sector ensure the next generation of optical professionals is developed to become safe and effective practitioners,’ she said.
