Six members of staff at a Chippenham opticians have completed a course in sign language to enable them to better serve deaf and hard of hearing customers.
The staff from Specsavers Opticians in Borough Parade completed the 11-week course at Chippenham College.
Store directors Michael Thompson and Stuart Anglin covered the costs.
'It's been fantastic to learn a new language, especially one that is so different,' said Hannah Purdy, one of the dispensing assistants to complete the course. 'We've been practising with each other in the store, and we've already surprised a few customers when they realise we can talk with them in sign language,' she added.
Other staff members to complete the course were assistant manager Francesca Anderson, optometrists Diane Kilgour and Jo Stewart and dispensing assistants Linsey Broom and Stacey Beaven.
Store director Michael Thompson said: 'The staff were all really keen to do the course, and we were more than happy to pay for them to do it.'
