The College has appointed Anne Bishop, an experienced member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England to the newly created position of professional development and standards.
Her appointment follows the departure of Helen Stanforth, the former head of professional services at the College, who left the organisation in the autumn after 13 years.
Bishop, who is currently deputy head of the professional regulation and standards division of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, will begin her new job in the New Year.
Bryony Pawinska, College of Optometrists chief executive said: 'Anne brings with her a wealth of experience of postgraduate education, professional development and standard setting that will be enormous benefit to the College. I am delighted that Anne's appointment completes the College senior management team.'
In its statement the College said Bishop had developed extensive and detailed practical knowledge of postgraduate surgical training, education, professional development and standard setting and the changing framework for health provision. 'She has been responsible for policy formulation, development and implementation and has had significant change management experience.'
Between September 2002 and May this year, Bishop was seconded to the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in Melbourne.
