Modern street lights can damage eyesight, says report
Modern street lights can keep people awake at night and damage their eyesight, a report from Public Health England's chief medical officer Dame Sally Davies has warned.
Councils have replaced hundreds of thousands of street lights with LEDs which are cheaper to run and have lower emissions, but PHE said the ‘uncomfortable’ lights could cause long-term damage to people’s eyesight, leaving them with health problems that included a feeling of permanent jet lag.’
PHE suggested local authorities should limit LED street lights.
