A student optometrist has been suspended from the register for six months by a fitness to practise committee of the General Optical Council (GOC).

A student optometrist has been suspended from the register for six months by a fitness to practise committee of the General Optical Council (GOC).

Ahthesamul Islam Chowdhury was found guilty of misconduct after failing to declare a caution and conviction for shoplifting for which he received a conditional discharge on four applications made to the GOC's registration department between 2005 and 2008.

As well as receiving a police caution for shoplifting in September 2009, Chowdhury stole clothing valued at £559 from Selfridges in May 2004 for which he was given a conditional discharge of two years on July 8, 2004.
