Birmingham-based student optometrist Waqaus Ali has been suspended for three months by the General Optical Council after a committee found his fitness to practise impaired by reason of conviction.
The decision was made in relation to Ali failing to provide a blood specimen during an investigation to determine if he had driven while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Ali referred himself to the GOC in August, 2020 and advised he pleaded guilty and had been convicted in March, 2020.
In November, 2019, Ali was driving a car and stopped by North Yorkshire police after he took a turn too widely. He refused to provide a blood specimen for testing when asked.
