Studies show children's eye health neglect

Children's eye health has continued to be neglected with increasing numbers going without a vision test altogether.

Two separate studies showed more that a quarter of schoolchildren have never had an eye examination by an optometrist despite most parents considering them important.

A total of 70 per cent of parents saw sight tests as 'very important' in the College of Optometrists' latest Britain's Eye Health in Focus report, which was released last week.

The report showed that around a tenth of parents could not remember the last time their child went for a sight test or believed it had been over 10 years since their last test. A quarter admitted their child had never been tested, compared to 14 per cent in two years ago.
