Study reveals UK drivers’ attitudes to visual deterioration

Euro Car Parts polled 2,000 UK-based drivers on their attitudes towards reduced vision and driving

In a study that polled 2,000 UK-based drivers on their attitudes towards reduced vision and driving, 70% of respondents admitted their vision had become worse since they passed their test.

A greater proportion of those over 55, 84% of these respondents, admitted that their vision had deteriorated since passing their test. However, 55% of those in the 18-24 age group and 59% of those in the 25-34 age group also indicated that their vision had worsened.

Only 20% of those polled believed that those with poor vision should be banned from driving, but there was strong support for the proposition that drivers should have their vision retested at some point, with 81% of respondents agreeing. Ten years after passing a test was the most popular timeframe for a retest, with 28% of respondents backing this option.
