Suffolk practice hosts blindfolded walk

A blindfolded walk took place in the Suffolk town, Beccles, organised by Observatory the Opticians & Hearing Care and the Beccles & District Lions Club to raise awareness of the difficulties experienced by blind people.

Beccles mayor councillor Colin Hill joined the walk, which started and finished outside the independent’s practice, leading participants through the marketplace and returning via the King’s Head pub.

Mayor Hill said that after experiencing the walk, he'll 'now have more consideration for non-sighted people.'

René Moor, senior optometrist at Observatory the Opticians, commented: ‘We do a blindfolded walk every year to raise awareness of the difficulties that visually impaired and blind people face as part of their everyday routines, such as entering shops, crossing roads, negotiating kerbs and shopping in busy high streets with many obstacles.’
