A former Specsavers dispensing optician who once admitted to using £1,200 of cocaine in a single week has received a further two-year conditional registration order from the General Optical Council's fitness to practise panel.

A former Specsavers dispensing optician who once admitted to using £1,200 of cocaine in a single week has received a further two-year conditional registration order from the General Optical Council's fitness to practise panel.

Meeting to review the previous order placed on Nathan Ryan on November 9 2006, the disclipinary committee heard that Ryan's fitness to practise was impaired due to his being unable to fulfil a condition related to supervision of his practise during the period of conditional registration.

Ryan who had not worked as a DO during this period, but had fulfilled all other conditions, received a new conditional registration order applicable only to supervision in the workplace. The new conditions will come into effect after Ryan commences his next period of employment as a dispensing optician.
