Surgeon chairs safety panel

Moorfields Eye Hospital consultant surgeon Ananth Viswanathan has been appointed as the chairperson of the Department of Transport's Driving and Visual Disorder's Medical Advisory Panel.

Viswanathan, who has served as a panel member for 10 years, succeeded current chairman Michael Miller following his retirement.

The panel advises government policy makers on the road safety implications of driving and visual disorders. This appointment is for a five-year fixed term with the possibility of a single re-appointment, a statement added.
