Supracor Intralasik laser eye surgery that creates near, intermediate and distance for presbyopes was performed in the UK for the first time last week when two patients were operated on at the Centre for Sight in East Grinstead.
Medical director and founder of the centre Sheraz Daya said the results were beyond his expectations with the patients reporting better than 20/20 at distance and with 20/20 at near and intermediate.
The procedure, which comes from Technolas Perfect Vision of Germany, is a development of Lasik surgery which the centre said was an improvement on monovision for the over-45s.
One of those undergoing the Supracor treatment was the centre's theatre manager, Yvonne How. She had not worn spectacles until she was 43 but found varifocal lenses restrictive.
