A third survey of drivers in as many weeks has shown that over three-quarters (79 per cent) would support regular compulsory testing of drivers' vision if it were introduced in the UK.
Research by the College of Optometrists follows similar surveys by road safety organisations RAC Foundation and Brake (News, 01.04.11). The latest research was conducted online by One Poll among 3,000 UK citizens on March 31 and April 1.
Nearly half of respondents (46 per cent) said that tests should take place every five years, although fewer (35 per cent) would be willing to pay for a compulsory driving vision check. The RAC found that 79 per cent of drivers would be prepared to pay for eye tests coinciding with 10-yearly licence renewal.
