Around 500,000 people in England and Wales are at risk of losing their sight due to undiagnosed glaucoma according to a survey published to mark last Thursday's World Sight Day (October 9).
New research has revealed that fewer than half of all adults have had their eyes tested in the past five to 10 years, and that only one in five visit an optical practitioner when a problem is obvious. The survey, supported by Pfizer, also revealed that one third of respondents did not know the symptoms of glaucoma. Also, 20 per cent of Britons were not sure if they were even eligible for a free eye examination.
