Swimming: Splashing out on goggles

Demand for prescription swimming goggles is reported brisk so why don’t optical practices promote them more? Chris Bennett dives in to find out more

Soaring temperatures and unbroken sunshine has prompted a resurgence in staycations which has seen people flocking to beaches, pools and lakes for a cooling dip.

Sadly not everyone can enjoy the fun according to research from goggle maker Swans UK because they struggle to find the right goggles. The research showed that 68% of adults said they would be prepared to go swimming more if they had goggles.

David Bursey, managing director of Swans says goggles are universal for people swimming for fitness and beyond but that is far from true for occasional swimmers. He says some of the biggest complaints from wearers about goggles are around the fit, comfort and marks that goggles leave when they are not fitted correctly – all issues that are easily overcome.
