After many months of hard training the Optician Ironman Team is ready to perform. This weekend the team takes part in the UK Ironman Triathlon in Bolton to raise cash for Vision Aid Overseas.

So far the team has raised over £6,000 but is urging all readers to visit www.justgiving.com/opticianironman09/ and make a donation. The event requires competitors to swim 2.4 miles, cycle 112 miles and then run a marathon. Fiona Molloy and Chris Bennett have picked up healthy backing from the optical industry through practical support and large donations to VAO. The main sponsors are Transitions, Ultralase, See 20/20, Hilco and Speedo, and are all named on the race kit. In addition the team will be swimming in Speedo goggles and cycling and running in Johnson & Johnson contact lenses and Transitions lenses. Vital equipment support in the form of race wheels has been provided by See 20/20.
