Tech firm given £1.2m from the EU’s Horizon 2020 SME programme
British 3D scanning technology firm Fuel3D has secured £1.2m from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 SME instrument programme to develop a facial scanning system for customised eyewear through manufacturing processes including 3D printing.
The company’s proposed system combined pre-calibrated stereo cameras with photometric imaging to capture and process a 270-degree 3D scan of a patient’s face to enable accurate measurements to be taken. Data is captured in under 0.1s, which the company said compensated for any movement and blinking.
