The Autumn/Winter Ted Baker Eyewear collections were launched last week at the fashion company's London headquarters, a new line of 40 frames and sunglasses, with an emphasis on layered acetate.
Other features to look out for in the Mondottica-produced collection are forked or double sides on several ophthalmic models, etched designs on metal fronts and increasing use of studs, punched holes and diamanté detailing. There are clear temple tips, cutaway features, an emphasis on combination acetate and metal styles and the use of strong colours from purple to green.
Men's sunglasses include updates of the aviator style in bright or burnished gold, for example Sonny. Double bridges also feature, such as the acetate model Scoot and a nice colour contrast in acetate with Hurtle, with a particularly lively green on the inner side.
Electric blue is a popular colour that appears in both metal and acetate, the latter teamed with a lighter blue horn print on the inner frame. The men's sunglasses were described by Karen Hall of Kurious PR as large, but no so large that they would put men off wearing them. One double-bridged metal, like an aviator, features check print on the temples.
There are supras in the men's optical collection, but not so many rimless designs with the new launches. Hall commented: 'Most styles tend to be supras, with a dominant brow bar or colour, for a strong look.'
Model Gizmo is a combination frame with metal front and forked or 'bifurcated' acetate sides, while Skyraider in titanium has cut-away details at the temple. Cuzin gives a nod to retro styling and, said Hall, 'typified the humour apparent in Ted's Eyewear collection'.
Red is a popular colour in the women's eyewear, and larger eye shapes include model Edie, a 'bug-eye' sunglass design in pink, black, grey and white.
Colour combinations include the graphic black and white, or mulberry with cream. Another eye-catching sunglass design is Liberty, with leather covered sides in options of pink and white.
In the women's opticals, acetate includes red with a clear underside, and another red design with turquoise in model Valiant. There are plenty of small rectangular shapes and autumn colour combinations from cool greys mixed with metallic autumn browns and colour explosions.
'Retro styling makes these frames the completion of this winter's tailored, sleek and grown up look,' added Hall.
