A Specsavers optometrist who claimed sex discrimination after taking time off to care for her sick daughter has lost her case at an employment tribunal.
Donna-Louise Gordon, 33, of Kelvinside, Glasgow who worked at Saltcoats branch of Specsavers in Ayrshire, had accused former store manager Jennifer Ferdinand of sex discrimination and victimisation after she took time off in November 2006.
The tribunal ruled that Gordon, who later left her job, had failed to comply with laws governing absence to look after relatives, according to the Evening Times. She had sent a text message to the store manager's mobile which she knew would be left in a locker.
The tribunal heard that both Specsavers and Ferdinand were concerned only with the way Gordon told them she'd be off and not why.
